The Evolution of The Bailey Clinic Diabetes Program
After treating numerous life-threatening
Diabetes complications in the ER and ICU, Dr. Bailey began to focus on
preventing these complications. Unfortunately his efforts to develop a
comprehensive diabetes management program at the Red Deer Hospital in 1980 was
cancelled due to Federal and Alberta budget cuts. This led him to provide diabetes
management from his private office...thus, The Bailey Clinic was born! The
main goal is to teach individuals how to both prevent acute complications and manage chronic complications
associated with uncontrolled diabetes.
Many years ago, a research protocol developed by Dr. Bailey gave birth to an innovative concept of diabetes education and management based on preventing an abnormal change of the blood glucose, rather than correcting a single abnormal glucose test result. This logical, effective and safe approach to diabetes management called Treat Your Trends (TYT) has been progressively refined during the management of thousands of individuals with diabetes and dozens of clinical research studies. Dr. Bailey is developing a web-based, self-learning TYT education program that will be available to all healthcare professionals and individuals with diabetes in the third quarter of 2015.

The Evolution of The Bailey Clinic Research Program
About twenty-five years ago, the Bailey Clinic was invited to participate in its first clinical research study. Since then Dr. Bailey has been invited to be a Principal Investigator of more than 150 clinical research protocols investigating almost all promising diabetes and cardiovascular prevention therapies developed and introduced since that time.
The internationally recongnized Clinical Research Network, now referred to as the Central Alberta Research Centre, was started by Dr. Gordon Bailey and consists of a Research Manager, four experienced Research Coordinators & Nurses, a Research Assistant and several affiliated GPs; The Bailey Clinic remains at the forefront of community based, clinical research.
